Cybersecurity awreness programs offered by third parties can be costly and most organizations lack the resources to produce their own security awareness training material.

But needless to say, having a robust cybersecurity awareness training is key to the success of your overall security program as well as a prerequisite for all major compliance frameworks.

So I’ve listed here some of the resources I found most useful (and fun) when building and delivering an information security awareness program.

Cybersecurity Awareness Training by Amazon

This un-branded, 15-minute training has the Hollywood production quality and it covers secure communication, data classification, phishing, physical security, social engineering, data privacy, third-party/application security, laptop standard, protect data, and acceptable use. It provides a certificate of completion which can be downloaded as a PDF once the training is completed.

The training is also available for download as a SCORM or a Tin Can/xAPI exported package that you can upload to your own Learning Management System (LMS).

SANS OUCH! Newsletters

OUCH! is a free security awareness newsletter designed for everyone. Published every month in multiple languages, each edition is carefully researched and developed by the SANS Security Awareness team, instructors and community members. Sign up to receive this in your mailbox every month and share with your colleagues, friends or your aunt who spends way too much time on social media.

Jigsaw Phishing Quiz

This is a lot of fun! Identifying phishing can be harder than you think. Phishing is an attempt to trick you into giving up your personal information by pretending to be someone you know. Can you spot wen you are being phished?

Salesforce Trailhead

Free learning for companies and individuals of all levels to develop security knowledge and learn about careers in cybersecurity. A collaboration between Fortinet, the World Economic Forum, Salesforce and the Global Cyber Alliance.

I particularly like the Executive Security Awareness module (circa 40min) you find under “for Organizations” section. There is a knowledge check at the end of each module and links to resources for further reading!

1Password University

Free online learning platform, designed to help anyone develop a deeper understanding of online security, privacy, and staying safe on the internet.

From one convenient hub, you can access a wealth of knowledge ranging from 1Password-specific tips and tricks, to deeper dives into the fascinating world of IT security concepts. Learn how to make the most of your 1Password account’s features, find out how to build a culture of security in your workplace, or discover why re-using the same password across multiple accounts puts you at risk.

PS: I did not include the Microsoft Cybersecurity Awareness Kit in this list because it’s only available to Microsoft 365 customers. However, if you are already an Office365 customer, I suggest you check that one out too.
